Working Together

We are seeing a renewed sense of urgency in the community to address the growing affordability housing crisis. 

We don’t have to tell you, reader, that COVID-19 has amplified the housing crisis in Canada—and the crisis is not only about having enough but the right housing. Funders are concerned with several factors contributing to the crisis, including the rising cost of living, domestic violence, mental health, addiction, and a lack of safe housing for seniors.

The early days of the pandemic slowed the ability to imagine a new collaboration and consider bold solutions together:

• Social service and housing agencies were immersed in attending to the basic needs of vulnerable citizens. 

• Governments and funders were in the same boat. They were challenged with creating meaningful emergency funds to keep social service operations viable and get services and supports in the hands of those in need.

• Corporations, builders, and donors, meanwhile, were unclear as to their own financial viability. 

But 2022 is different.  Over the past five months, we have received positive signals from government, foundations, and donors that the current environment is favourable for communities to come together with a unified approach.  

By bringing together agencies and organizations with common interests, CAHF will facilitate collaboration to expedite capital fundraising to create more homes for Calgarians faster. Join us in this shared journey and email us if you are interested to learn more about how you can get involved.
